Juilliard String Quartet – Personnel
Transition
A change of personnel in a string quartet is no minor thing:
one-quarter of its membership changes
instantly, and no one can fully predict how
the ensemble will fare. In October, 2009,
the Juilliard String Quartet announced that
Nick Eanet would succeed Joel Smirnoff as
only the third musician to occupy the first
violinist’s chair in the Quartet’s 63-year
history. Mr. Eanet’s first performances with
the Quartet were scheduled for July, 2009,
but he sustained a wrist injury in a skating
accident and his debut with the Quartet had
to be postponed to September. As National
Press Representatives for the Juilliard
String Quartet, Nancy Shear Arts Services
first communicated the fact that the
personnel change would be a positive
development for the JSQ, then handled the
postponement with openness, providing
reassurance concerning Mr. Eanet’s recovery.
Mr. Eanet’s successful first season with the
Quartet garnered significant press coverage
and rave reviews. For media results
